About Us

Gielgud Films was created in 2005 by Suzanne Gielgud – a multi-award winning writer, director, editor and producer. Suzanne is dedicated to making visually inspiring films with a passion for the arts. Suzanne is also a former professional ballet dancer, actress, theatrical talent agent and the founder of the Gielgud Academy of Performing Arts.

Suzanne was awarded a distinction for her Master of Arts (MA) in Film through Raindance, London and Staffordshire University, England. Her feature screenplay ‘Olga’ was developed through the MA and won Best Unproduced Script at the 2018 Nice International Film Festival and was awarded honourable mentions at the 2018 New York International Screenplay Awards. Suzanne’s latest feature screenplay, Breathe – the Alice Martineau story, received honorable mentions at the 2025 New York Screenplay awards.

Gielgud Film’s first feature documentary ‘Dancing for Oliver’ (DFO) told the story of the creation of the dance scenes for Oliver Stone’s feature film ‘Alexander’ and included an exclusive and in-depth interview with Stone. In 2006, DFO was screened at film festivals internationally including Raindance, and won a Best Documentary Award at the inaugural Marbella Film Festival. Gielgud’s second feature documentary ‘The Gospel of Ross McKim’ (GRK) illuminated the career of Contemporary Dance Guru Dr Ross McKim. In 2016 GRK was screened at Raindance and the Hollywood Independent International Documentary Awards and won Best Feature Documentary and Best Female Filmmaker award for Suzanne Gielgud.

As well as feature documentaries and short films, Gielgud Films also specializes in the filming of live opera and ballet productions. Gielgud has several feature films in late-stage development, as well as an animation project developed during lockdown, with funding awarded through the Government’s kickstarter programme.
